Raj Sahota

Day Program Manager

South Surrey

Raj has been with Brella Community Services Society (formerly Seniors Come Share Society) since 2014. Raj has her Degree in Therapeutic Recreation with a post-baccalaureate certificate in Disability and Applied Behavior Analysis. She is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).

Raj’s journey to finding her passion in Therapeutic Recreation has been a bittersweet one. After the death of her grandfather, whom she cared for along with the rest of her family, she felt a void. Hoping to fill this, she began volunteering at a local care facility where she learned about the Therapeutic Recreation field and instantly fell in love with it. Ten years later, she still loves her career, and dreams of completing her Master’s degree to improve her skills in helping individuals age in place as safely as possible. In the meantime, Raj works towards this goal by using new and innovate ideas and techniques in the services she provides. Currently, she works alongside other CTRS’ in creating a toolkit to help meet the social, physical, and cognitive needs of our clients within the community.

To date, Raj’s biggest accomplishments have resulted from the close relationships that she has built with the staff and with her clients. These, together with her sense of ownership, which motivates her to go the second mile, have provided stability during the many changes if the last few years. Additionally, Raj continues to be instrumental in keeping the Therapeutic purposes of the organization front and center and in practicing the “every person matters” value of our society which ensures that the dignity of Brella’s participants are maintained.

In her spare time, Raj finds her “flow” via tinkering about, with her nose in a book, or off looking for her next adventure/challenge.  She also enjoys making Indian street food, spending quality time with her family and loved ones, and helping others find their “flow”.
